Talking Referee announcements/calls on mp3/CD

Hi there

I am looking for a CD or only mp3's with referee calls/announcements (of fouls, coin toss, ...). I'd like to listen to them and practise in my car when driving to work.
My first HR will be in a few weeks so I thought instead of listening to music I could listen to calls and practise by repeating them (like a "learn a language CD")

Any one of you who owns such stuff and is willing to share?

so long

Might try the 1991 film Necessary Roughness. There are some good calls in that game.

There's a commercial showing on honest Referee claiming that his call was crap and that he'll have a cosmetic call in the 2nd half.

You could capture that audio into an MP3.

I know this is gonna sound stupid, but I practice my signals in front of the mirror all of the time and in the shower I practice my calls. I also pattern myself after some of the officials I see on TV - Mike Carey is one of my favorites, he gives good strong signals. Although, I do have a beef with his Personal foul....major facemask thing that he says - my wife and I always joke about that.

Carey is way too robotic for my liking. I've been an 85 fan since before it became popular.

I've been a Winter fan since 2001.

Doesn't sound stupid at all !!

I did precisely that (a suggestion by a clinician we brought over to the UK in the 1980's) when I started working the Referee spot and it helped me a lot. I don't practice my announcements in the bathroom ( ) but I do visualise them together with my signals in my mind.

My best tip would be to make your signal and announcement slower. Then make it slower again. The sidelines will appreciate being given the time to see and hear the penalty. It is usually my #1 point when I am doing an assessment of a White Hat.

If there is a chance of watching yourself on video, then do it. You will be amazed at how bad you look It really helps and will make you concious of getting into an empty bit of the field away from the huddles where you can be seen, STANDING STILL, giving a slow signal and a clear, slow announcement.

In addition to slowing down make sure you are out away from the crowd in the clear. Never try and give a signal when you are standing among the players or other officials.

If you are using your own ECO have him let you know how it looks at half-time.

VERY good advice. To help with this, put deliberate pauses. I sometimes get in a hurry to get everything out, but if I pause, it flows better. So, my presentation is essentially:

"HOLDING (pause) offense (pause) 10 yard penalty from the previous spot (pause) repeat x down."
