If this isn't possible the officials usually work out some sort of mileage split between them. Some school will pay both officials for mileage but is not required. If the officials ride together the unwritten rule is the driving official is responsible for post game snacks and beverages.

Oregon has something similar.

The schools pay for one mileage. Each organization decides how they split it among the crew. In more rural areas it is often all to 1 who is expect to drive. In metro areas, it is often divided equally among the crew (the bigger the crew, the smaller the mileage amount) since riding together is often not feasible.
