One-Upsmanship ...
We get cold beer after games at a private prep school here in my little corner of Connecticut.

Next time I will go to confession. Beer makes me piss too much, plus I'd be too worried about my public image as "official" and also very scared to get pulled over for dui driving home from the games. But I'm sure you jest Last edited by Kansas Ref; Mon Nov 03, 2014 at 10:01am. |

Yes one official only. This is an agreement of our organization with our schools. We are encouraged to ride together. If this isn't possible the officials usually work out some sort of mileage split between them. Some school will pay both officials for mileage but is not required. If the officials ride together the unwritten rule is the driving official is responsible for post game snacks and beverages. Last edited by jeremy341a; Tue Nov 04, 2014 at 01:51pm. |

The schools pay for one mileage. Each organization decides how they split it among the crew. In more rural areas it is often all to 1 who is expect to drive. In metro areas, it is often divided equally among the crew (the bigger the crew, the smaller the mileage amount) since riding together is often not feasible.

We got a $5/game raise this year for all levels. Our fees go by the quarter length.
8 min: $60 7 min: $50 6 min: $40 We add on $15 if we have to go somewhere for only one game. The vast majority of assignments are JV/V doubleheaders. 40 cents/mile for one driver, round trip. We will split mileage if both people have to drive for some reason, but we usually ride together. I'm not sure about football, but most of the other sports got similar raises this school year. I know softball and baseball went to $60 for varsity games and $50 for JV games. |

There are some private schools in my area that used to do this on a regular basis. The practice was outlawed by the IHSA, but there are some rare occations this still takes place for some oldtimers. I have been offered but never took a school or AD up on this opportunity. Peace

Kansas Ref- what part of the state are you in?
Here in SE Kansas- V doubleheader BV/GV is 100/3 whistle, 115/2 whistle in the last conference that refuses to go 3. I think JV is 75/2 whistle doubleheader. No mileage. |

In Alabama:
Varsity - $55/game (always 3 officials) JV - $40/game (3); $45/game (2) MS - $35/game (3); $40/game (2) Clock operator (if an official) - $25/game Mileage - $8.00 per official, flat rate ($10.00 if over 60 miles) Most HS dates in our area consist of 3 games - JV boys, V girls, V boys - all worked by the same crew, so $150 + mileage for a night's work. |
