Bench Personnel?
4-34-1
"...A player is one of five team members who are legally on the court at any given time, except intermission." Situation: Team members are on the court and ready to begin the game with a jump ball...Prior to the toss, U1 notices A1 has an illegal undershirt on. A1 is notified that his undershirt is illegal and cannot participate with it. A1 instantly removes Jersey and Undershirt, in front of bench, as he does not want to miss the tip-off. You make the call.

Not in Virginia
The 2 times I've had to have a player change out of an undershirt, I was sure to tell the coach that his player needs to leave the visible confines. There was a big uproar locally about 5-6 years ago when a player changed out his shorts, right in front of the bench, an he didn't get penalized.

At the Louisiana state tournament a couple of years ago a player apparently had blood on his jersey. No problem. He borrowed one from a teammate on the bench, took off his own jersey, and put on the new one as he walked across the court and returned to the game. Apparently I was the only one who noticed.

So the question would be...why?

Please Tell Me You're Joking
What other instances of indifference do you desire to pass off to the next crew to whom the coach says, "But they let us do that last game!"

We just tell the player to change their shirt outside of the court area. We make it clear why that is the case and that usually works.
Peace

In a recent Holiday Tournament, we had a young man who needed to change his under garment as it was the wrong color. As he started to disrobe "right there," the R told him to go behind the bleachers. The T can be prevented in many cases.

This is what I was trying to say. Just tell him to get it fixed, but not on the bench.

Start the sentence with "you need to leave the court" instead of with "you need to change / remove your shirt." And, take the player to the coach and tell the coach the ruling / requirements.
