Intentional foul situations gone wrong

I had a coach tell me these happened to him..both in the same game.

#1 - A1 driving to the basket for what should be an uncontested layup - B1 follows the player and pushes A1 with two hands in the middle of the back and the basket it made. They call the intentional foul, count the basket, shoot the "and 1" free throw, clear the lane and shoot two free throws and award A the ball at mid-court.

#2 - A1 is fouled while shooting a 3-point shot and the basket is not made. They rule the foul as intentional. They clear the lane and shoot three freethrows and award A the ball at mid-court.

#1 - Ugh on shooting three FTs and the spot for the throw-in.

#2 - The only thing handled incorrectly was the throw-in spot - unless, of course, the try was attempted from the division line. An intentional foul on a missed three-point attempt results in three FTs (NFHS case book 4.19.3 Situation A, Part C).

1. Did they shoot the "And 1" with players on the lane?

2. This is the only time you shoot 3 FTs for an intentional foul.

Peace

I usually doubt the coach's version of events that happened in a previous game.

The coach should approach the referee before the next game and tell him/her that a rule was kicked.

Sorry, wrong thread.

I usually doubt the coach's version of events that happened 5 seconds ago.

Intentional foul is ALWAYS 2 shots plus the ball except on a missed 3 point attempt.

2-shots and the ball

NFHS
4.19.3 SITUATION A: B1 is charged with an intentional foul on A1 who is in the
act of shooting: (a) a successful two-point or three-point try; (b) an unsuccessful two-point try; or (c) an unsuccessful three-point try.

RULING: In (a) and (b), A1 is awarded two free throws. In (c), A1 is awarded three free throws. In all situations following the free throws, Team A is awarded a throw-in at the out-of bounds spot nearest the foul

Here's where you could potentially have a 5-point play, intentional foul on successful 3-pt try, with 2-FT. Bingo. 5-pts real fast.
