Now, whether you'd allow the coach to withdraw the sub after the player came onto the court but before play was resumed (as I might) is another story.

I'll buy this. But I think of those two events as happening at virtually the same time. It's hard for me to imagine the coach realizing the problem and grabbing the sub after the beckon.

While this particular scenario is a long shot, it isn't uncommon to have a noticeable delay between a player being beckoned and actually entering the court: especially in high school.

I actually had a coach pull back a sub after I beckoned him Friday.
