1. Most definitely wait.
2. I'd still wait in this situation.

So would I. I see no limit on time or number of attempts. The key phase for me is "defenders are still not back."

I'd wait until Team B got possession.

I had a situation like this last night, but with an intentional foul.

A1 had had the ball stolen by B1 at A's end of the floor. A1 and B1 both go to the floor but B has a breakaway. A1 is mad because she fell and lost the ball and throws an elbow into B1 while on the ground. I waited to call the foul after B scored the layup but wasn't sure if this is right. The more my partners and I thought about it, it should have been called right away since that reduces the risk of retaliation. Thoughts?

You do not wait to call intentional fouls. Only technical fouls you can wait because you are reacting to conduct, not contact. You should have called the foul right away or you will have other action that will continue and you might have to call other things. I do not like to say never, but never wait for an intentional foul to be called just because someone is trying to score.

Peace

That is certainly not a intentional foul, its a go-straight-to-jail flagrant.

I had the same sitch last week, but with a technical foul:

A1 had had the ball stolen by B1 at A's end of the floor. A1 and B1 both go to the floor but B has a breakaway. A1 is mad because he fell and lost the ball and curses me for not calling a foul on B1......
1) I whistled the T on A1....
2) Which stopped B's breakaway....
3) Which then had B's HC all over me when I went to the table to report the T on A1.....
4) Which then had my (more experienced) P, during the next TO, taking me to task for what B's HC had just chewed my butt for.....
5) Why P couldn't hold off on his constructive criticism until we got into the locker room at halftime still has me miffed.....

Reading this thread, needless to say I pooched this one.

Thoughts?

It is possible your partner did not wait until you got to the locker room because now that situation could come up again and it needs to be dealt with accordingly. Like what if coach A chews one of you and then you give him a T? You know that coach will claim he was singled out. Some things cannot wait for halftime, but that being said it would really depend on what he actually said to you for me to think that would be inappropriate at that time.

Peace
