Waiting on a tech?
A makes a steal and has an apparent 2 on zero breakaway. B's coach issues some creative language regarding your parentage, earning a T.
1) Do you wait until the breakaway has scored before issuing the T? 2) What if the first shot is missed, but B team defenders are still not back and A still has another easy shot - wait still? |
Wait until the scoring opportunity passes. It's a casebook play, I think.

Question 2 was more for me... how long is "the scoring opportunity". |

As soon as the shot is made or missed, assess the T |
Delayed whistle. Let the play happen, if they score on the lay up then get it, if they don't then get it after the attempt.

1. Most definitely wait.
2. I'd still wait in this situation. |

I'd wait until Team B got possession.

2). Wait.... ...Now Go.... |
Just do not call the T when the player is shooting.
I had a partner do this and there was an issue of if the basket counted or if it did not count (not by the crew but the coach). No hurry to call the T when a team is driving hard to the basket. Peace |
Withhold Whistle ...
Quote:
the official, while trailing the play advancing in the direction in which the ball is being advanced, is cursed by the head coach or bench personnel of Team B. How should the official handle this situation? RULING: The official shall withhold blowing the whistle until A1 has either made or missed the shot. The official shall then sound the whistle and assess the Team B head coach or bench personnel with a technical foul. If the official judges the act to be flagrant, the offender shall be ejected. If A’s coach or bench personnel was the offender, the whistle shall be sounded immediately when the unsporting act occurs. (10-4-1a) |
I see no reason not to wait.

Vicious!:D |
I had a situation like this last night, but with an intentional foul.
A1 had had the ball stolen by B1 at A's end of the floor. A1 and B1 both go to the floor but B has a breakaway. A1 is mad because she fell and lost the ball and throws an elbow into B1 while on the ground. I waited to call the foul after B scored the layup but wasn't sure if this is right. The more my partners and I thought about it, it should have been called right away since that reduces the risk of retaliation. Thoughts? |
