It isn't delineated in the books, but this is and should be called a travel, IMO. Spirit and intent of the rules kind of thing. And for those of you on the "nothing says it's illegal, so it's legal" side, would you not call a travel when a player, who gains control of the ball while sitting on their backside, pushes off with their feet and slides - on their butt - to a new position on the floor? Not prohibited anywhere by rule or case, but I feel the spirit and intent of the rules would be to rule that a violation.
If I see this in the playoffs next week, I'm calling it a travel. And I'll use 2-3 to defend it, if necessary. - And I'd bet the game check that I wouldn't have to defend it very hard.
Also, I minored in rules spirit in undergrad.
