I know female officials who still call it '3-man'.

This is kind of a silly issue for most people. Do players call "Man to Man" defense, "Person to Person?"

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" (Billy Shakespeare)
This is kind of easy to settle. What does the NFHS call it in their mechanics manual? What does the NCAA call it? For those that don't use any particular manual, what does your local association call it? IAABO calls it "Crew Of Three".

My point is if someone says "3 Man" I do not think we need get excited about it. After all most 3 Person crews have 3 men working it. Very few women at least at the HS level. College that might be a different story. Peace

Can't We All Just Get Along?
This is getting a little out of hand. Look. The original classical languages all had easy-to-distinguish terms for male, female, and both when intended in a general sense. It's only when the English, probably under the influence of the French (which explains all the inconvenient oddities of the English language anyway), settled on what words to use, they chose a word which can be meant both generally and specifically. Thus "man" can mean "male" or "human being."
Therefore, from this time forward, all reference on this discussion board to officials' crews who are either male or female or both male and female (that could open up a whole different thread) shall be as such: "Two Human Being Crew", or "Three Human Being Crew". There. That ought to settle it. After it catches on here it ought to show up in the Officials' Manual in a year or so.
