Wednesdays aren't completely sacred in Wisconsin. For years, the final football games of the season were played on Wednesdays/Thursdays. I saw a few snow makeups played on Wednesdays this season
It's just traditionally been a night off around here -- probably started that way for church reasons -- and stayed that way. With Athletic Directors having events M, T, Th, F, and S, it's nice to be able to have a family night for the ADs, coaches, players, and officials -- one that we can predict with pretty much certainty. |

Do they still close at 8:00pm? Used to drive me crazy when I was a teenager. Moved to Fla. and it's the complete opposite...beer is available pretty much everywhere 24/7.

Currently, Connecticut allows the sale of alcohol for consumption off premises to be between Monday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Since the inception of the Liquor Control Act, the deadline for sales has changed several times, from 6:00 p.m. in 1933, to 11:00 p.m. in 1939, to 9:00 p.m. in 1957, to 8:00 p.m. in 1967, and back to 9:00 p.m. in 2003.
Many Mom and Pop stores still close at 8:00 p.m. because they don't want to pay staff for the extra hour.

Years ago many churches had 'prayer meeting night' on Wednesday. No school events were scheduled on that evening. Mostly gone now.

Federal installations aren't restricted by the "off-premises" requirements so I can drive on the Army base next to my house 24/7 and buy any type of bottled/canned alcohol I desire.

I remember when I was a kid back on the South Side of Chicago, there was a 24 hour drive-thru liquor store near my house! Years later, when I lived briefly in Vegas before coming to Portland, I mentioned it to someone and they replied, "Yeah - so what's your point?"
