I'm sure they could figure it out. It's not rocket science. But everyone but officials uses the term baseline.

Again if I'm talking with officials, then I'll speak like an official. That means using end line, division line, try, habitual motion rather than the terms players/coaches/fans use like baseline, half court line, shot, etc.

I played soccer and I am a big fan, but I am confused by "byline" and "touchline". "Sideline" and "goal line" were the terms I grew up on as a player. Hard to adjust now and I am sure I would guess wrong much of the time.

Because 99% of the world uses baseline and there isn't any misinformation conveyed in using it.

Are those the same guys who insist on administering the throwin for every single back court violation, every single one of them, on the division line.

We had one that was touched in the FT semi-circle last night. It was an end line throw-in near the basket.

We're taught to use "endline." I've never known anyone to be confused by it, and even if they are, that's not on us. Who says we're supposed to comply to them, anyway?

That's true and if I'm talking with officials, I'm going to talk like an official. But anyone else, I'll use the common terms. Like Camron said, it doesn't convey any misinformation. It's not the same as calling a rebounding foul that we would call a push an "over the back" foul. Using that common term implies that it's illegal to go over someone's back. Calling the end line the baseline is just a different naming convention.
