I had a similar thing happen Friday night, end of Q1 2.2 seconds on the clock, home team with the ball for inbound. Clock doesn't start on time ( ball in, A2 dribbles 2 steps and shoots, then clock started )

End of Q2 3.5 seconds Home team with the ball for inbound, A2 gets the ball in BC, dribbles, passes to A3 I look at the clock and it hasn't started, A3 passes to A4 and A4 shoots and misses, I waved the Q to an end. I have no doubt 3.5 seconds have expired. More likely 5 seconds.

I talked to the clock operator and we didn't have any more problems the rest of the game.

I expect you will ask if the basket had gone what would I have done. I have to count it, unless my partner had a count.

BTW, home won by about 20 anyway. In a close game, what choice do I have?

Always have a count in the last 30 seconds or so of each period.

Especially when you looked and noticed the clock hadn't started.

I've had to end multiple quarters this way, although never twice in the same game. I always have a count at the end of a quarter.

About 4 years ago I started counting on everything in the final 10-20 seconds. i do it semi visibly like the free throw count.

I ended a game with a whistle that way recently. 1.2 on the clock for an inbound. It did not start. As I counted 2 after it was legally touched inbounds, I blew the whistle.
