True Jump Ball...Again!
Third "true jump ball" of the season tonight!
Tip to start the game went to two guys who tied the ball up between themselves. Crew nailed it, sending those two guys to do a second real jump ball. Visiting coach remarked, "Not many of you guys would get that one right. Good job." Third time this season. Almost felt like the old days once again! Any for you? |

Yep, Lightning Struck 3X This Year
Quote:
First was in an 8B tourney, where the coaches really didn't catch on to what had just occurred, therefore didn't comment on it. Second was a BJV, where the veteran home coach just couldn't let it go that we had it wrong, and that the centers should be sent to the circle to rejump. Third, tonite, BV, where both coaches understood--though the fans seemed to have been somewhat at a loss for how to react. I don't recall having it before--at least not since we went to the AP arrow and shortened MS games by a good half-hour. |

Wait, were we partners?

No offense, Snaqs, you simply provided the example. |

Maybe not. But if we didn't, not many of you coaches would know.

I am finished officiating High School games this year, so I am watching a lot of post season play. I saw a crew misapply the 2nd Jump Ball rule. They sent the original Jumpers to rejump.
Also I saw another misapplication during a jump ball. Jumper A1 taps the ball. The ball contacts the ground. Jumper B1 secures control of the ball. Official calls a violation on B1 for securing control of the ball. I bet no one but me knew that was not a violation. The Jump ball restriction ends when the ball touches the floor. There are other ways the jumpball restrictions end. I'll let you look in the rule book. They did set the AP arrow correctly after handing the ball to Team A for the throw-in. I know misapplying the jump ball is not going to decide the outcome of the game, but it irks me when the 'superior' officials misapply rules. |

Was this FED or NCAA? Makes a difference!!

Had my first one this season about two days after I either read it in the casebook or in a thread here. If my shirt had buttons, they would have popped off. |
