Ball lodged on rim

When the ball lodges between the rim and the backboard, the ball is put back into play using alternating possession unless a free throw or throw in follows.

So, I started thinking about the various scenarios. First of two free throws=shoot the second free throw. Final free throw=alternating possession.

But....since the ball usually lodges on a try attempt, when would a throw-in follow?

Some I came up with:

A1 is shooter, A2 fouls B2.

A1 is shooter, B2 fouls A2 before bonus is in effect.

I had more the other day while working but now at the computer....

i dont understand what your scenarios have to do with the ball being stuck betweeen or on the rim. if A1 shoots and A2 fouls B2 what would you do? whether or not the ball gets stuck anywhere doesnt change anything.

A1 is shooting two free throws for a flagrant/intentional/technical foul. Second shot becomes lodged on the rim. Throw-in for A follows in all situations so the AP arrow is not used.

You don't use the AP arrow when a throw-in pass lodges.

had this happen yesterday shooting around. Only done it a few times. Ball comes to a REST on the rim backboard side. just stops up there. I love when that happens. Except when I don't feel like jumping after it on a cold day.
AP or could a player jump up and hit it?

If a player jumps up to get it, it's BI.

The reason for AP is that you have a ball that has become dead without team control or an ensuing FT or TI.

If the ball had come to rest, it would already be dead, so no BI.

How long do you wait to see if it will go in? Hey, a big truck might drive by the gym? It's not going to stay up there forever, with plate tectonics, tornadoes, hurricanes, meteorites, etc.

At rest means not moving, does it not? If the ball is sitting on the flange with no visible movement, no spin, no nothing, it is dead.

The lodged ball is an easier decision.

I was answering the mut's question about whether we should go AP (which requires calling a dead ball) or allow a player to go up and get it and continue play.

It's either-or. Either it's dead ball/AP or it's BI.

a ball at rest on the flange is the same as the ball lodged between backboard and rim...AP, in the case
