Inbouding Rule/Trouble?

I was refereeing a high school recreation game under high school rules. On the last play of the game, the Team A was had in inbound pass along the sideline with 2 seconds left in the Game. During the inbound the pass traveled along the sideline where it hit a curtain which was out of bounds. Upon hitting the curtain it ricochet in bounds where it was caught. I thought the result should be a loss of possession since the ball hit the curtain. Whereas the other referee ruled game over. What's the actual ruling?

In bound violation for failing to directly inbound the ball. Other team's ball at the spot of the original inbound.

Thank you, do you or any other readers know where this is in the rule book?
