Talking

Go to DD's Div. 3 softball doubleheader and pay more attention to the umps mechanics than the game itself.

First game must have been a joy - pitcher for DD's team threw a perfect game. 21 batters - 12 strike outs - no walks, no hits, no runs.

Now for the umps - only one foible that I noticed - R1 on 1st - no outs. High pop-up to the shortstop. PU begins to call IFR - then realizes and cuts herself off.

Only other comment that I had was with BU in C on a play at third, PU would go so far up the line that I wasn't sure who was going to make the call. BU consistently took the call, as I would have expected. I would think that going getting this close to the play would invite questions about who had the better angle. - Thoughts??

By book that call is BU. Sounds like the PU was not in the proper Holding Zone. Did they communicate at all?

I thought 3rd is the PU responsibility unless there is a runner coming home, or it's the BR.

On the plays at 3rd, I saw no communication - BU took the call every time. I just thought that PU's position was inviting trouble.

FWIW - It must be something that they were taught. The switched positions between games and both umps moved to the same spot.

Rick:

Are you just quoting folks for the fun of it?

Naw, not that they didn't deserve to be quoted. My dadgummed computer has something working in the background. I hear it starting to click on the speakers and I am continuously surprised what happens. Apparently, it decided to activate some hot keys I've got and the quote happened.

I'm trying really hard to find out what got downloaded to make this happen, but no luck so far. It's driving me crazy. Sometimes the keyboard goes dead, the caps lock button is reversed, if I right click my mouse, I go back a page on the web site etc. etc. etc.

I'm not bad on a computer, but it may be time to go to my friend who's a pro at it and get it debugged. I just hate to admit defeat.
