Timeout on injured player

I had an interesting situation this weekend in a BV game during a Thanksgiving tourney.
During the game one of my partners stopped play for an injured team A player that was down on the court. Right after he blew the whistle, the coach from team B requests a timeout. So he grants it and all seems well. The player wasn’t badly hurt, but wanted out for a bit anyway. When the other team’s timeout completed, everyone was ready and away we went.

While I was standing on the block during the timeout I was wondering if we were handling this by the book. What is peculiar about this situation is that we stopped play for team A’s player but team B called time out. No coaches came out on the floor or anything like that.

I’m thinking that we probably should have delayed team B’s timeout until the injured team A player was replaced or team A requested a timeout to keep him in.
What do you think?

And yes I do realize this is similar to the Blood and Timeout thread recently posted.

Only if you determined that the A player needed to leave the game. If the coach didn't come on the court, that may or may not have been the case. You mentioned that he wanted to leave, so it sounds like it was the case, but I wanted to clarify that point. If you stop the game for an injury, that player isn't necessarily required to take a seat even if his coach doesn't request a TO.

The official who stopped the game must still get confirmation immediately from the player he is OK and will remain in the game. Once that confirmation is received then grant TO to either team.

If the player does not reply then I as referee will make the decision he must be replaced whether coach comes onto the court or not. And even though team B may request a TO first it may not be granted until Team A replaces injured player or requests a TO to keep him in the game. (Saves Team B a TO)

As stated, the player doesn't have to come out. If the player wants to leave, then you need their replacement to enter the game before the timeout is granted.

Otherwise, if the player is staying in the game then the timeout may be granted.
