Throw-in held ball question
Hello,
I am new to IAABO and am getting ready to take the test :-) One question keeps coming up in the practice exams on refschool. The jist of it is: A’s throw-in simultaneously caught… official rules held ball My logic is that the ball is legally touched so the throw-in should end, the arrow should switch, and since the result of the "legal throw-in" is a held ball it should go to B as an alternating throw-in... irrnt wrong. what is the correct ruling? Thanks! |

Sounds correct to me. I've been going through alternating throw-in situations quite a bit over the last week and as long as it is legally touched inbounds like it is in this situation, arrow changes ball to B for AP throw-in.
Only instances where arrow is not switched that I have come up with are foul committed by either team and a kicked ball by B as the first touching. Rule 4-42 and case book have helped me with this. |

the exact question is: A-1's throw-in, under the alternating possession procedure, is caught simultaneously by A-2 and B-2 causing a held ball. Official awards ball to team B. Is the official correct?
The answer is yes, but why? |

That's why.

It's worth noting that as you originally described the case, it's not clear that it should be B's throw-in after the held ball. If the original throw-in were not an AP throw-in, the arrow would not change when it ended, and it might be pointing to A. In that case, A would get another throw-in (this time an AP throw-in).
