Minnesota moved away from quarters to two halves a couple years ago. I like it a lot. The flow of the game isn't interrupted those two extra times. However, for some God awful reason they added 2 minutes per half... so it's two 18 minute halves. I haven't yet heard a good explanation for this.

WI is allowing 16 minute halves for varsity non-conference if both coaches agree.

I hope this is one step from changing it for all games. 2 less last second shots and 2 less timeouts, what's not to like?

I believe this is exactly what the Iowa Girls are doing as well. Non-conference games, both coaches need to agree to it. I would be willing to bet that not one single varsity game I officiate this year will be played with the 16 minute halves option. Personally, I would prefer two halves instead of four quarters. Seems to work well for the college game and I think eliminating two breaks in the action would be a positive thing.

I think you may see it in conference games where the competition is uneven (aka blow outs). Some teams might want to get the pain over with quicker. I am interested in seeing what conferences vote to use it (requiring it for conference varsity games).

Can anyone else confirm/admit that I was not the only one who read the OP topic's first three words and got a bit too excited about this thread?

I mean, I figured somebody would have made an absolute lay up of a joke by page 3, but here I am!

The Google bots searching for keywords probably had a field day.

wristbands/headwear

And officials for Iowa girls game don't need to be "fashion police"....

Adaptation #4 Wristbands and Headwear---We will be adhering to Rule 3-5-3 regarding wristbands and headwear with the following exceptions. Anything worn in the hair (including headbands) must be soft and unadorned but may be any color or multi-colored and do not have to match for all teammates. Bobby pins 2” or less will also be allowed. Wristbands may be any color or multi-colored and do not have to match for all teammates, but must be moisture-absorbing material. Lance Armstrong bracelets, rubber bands, etc., are still illegal as they are not moisture-absorbing.
