Easiest T you'll have all year, most likely.

OP, just curious...why do you think this wouldn't warrant a T?

The only reason I could think of would be if the player was deaf and didn't hear the whistle, then I might cut them some slack, but really this is a no-brainer...

What is the college rule?

I see the DI college guys do this on TV quite often and never a T. By rule would a T be warranted?

Edit; Should have read the OP better -
Not from half court. Whistle blows... then a couple steps and dunk.

Yes. NCAA Rule 10-6-1e (Men):

Class B Technical infractions:
"A technical foul shall be assessed to a player or a substitute for the following infractions:
- A team member dunking or attempting to dunk a dead ball before or during the game, or during any intermission."

I watch quite a few D1 games on TV and quite a few in person every year and this is very rare. Sometimes they'll lay the ball in if they get fouled near the basket, but to go from half court and dunk it?

This exact play happen in a playoff game in WI over the weekend and the officials got together and gave a delay of game warning.

As in one of the four delay of game warnings that already specifically exist, and that none of which is the situation that occurred?

That is correct!

Team A's coach went nuts on his own player...Team B's coach was fine with the warning...but he is a great guy who really wouldn't make a fuss over anything.

In all of my years as a basketball official, I now of only one player that I would have passed on in this situation. When I first started as a women's college official, Dade Co.-South Comm. Coll. had a player who was completely deaf without her hearing aids (which she did not wear when playing). There were times when she continued on after the whistled sounded.

I assume that was their final playoff game for the season.
