You should be beckoned. But like you, I would have gone to the player in that situation, especially since he was off the floor.

I would never say anything. I was waiting for some kind of eye contact..a wave, or some sign from the official. Later in the game..a kid went head first into the wall..same kind of situation, no beckoning..but because i was closer..even i went to check..nothing dirty..but chasing a loose ball.

I think Bob once, in the context of an injured player, said that when a coach comes out in emergent situations he or she is "considered beckoned." I like idea of tacit beckoning.
