Jump Ball Sitch

Girls Varsity game. I'm the R....Players are ready ,As I enter the circle the Visitors jumper turns to say something to a teammate. This happens as I'm beginning my move to toss the ball. I continued on with the toss. No one said anything. The jumper didn't have a chance at even jumping cause it was all over by the time she turned around.

Would you have reset or do as I did and just continue with the toss ?

I'm assuming you had a whislte prior to tossing? If so, that didn't get her attention??

Agree. If you whistled, let the play continue...her fault for not being ready. If you didn't whistle prior to toss, then hopefully you or your partner would whistle it dead and re-jump.

Yea I whistled. I whistle as I'm walking in towards the circle.

Play on, then. She knew you were coming.

Play on. It's her responsibility to be ready to jump.

And while that's not the ideal way to start the game, there's 32 more minutes to play. And there was only a 50% chance her team would get the jump anyway. Sounds like a pretty minimal amount of "harm" that she caused.

But overall, I'm betting SHE won't make that mistake again.

No need to readminister. As others have said, you properly sounded the whistle to alert the players that the ball was about to become live. What any player does after this is an individual decision.

Also remember that a jumper is not required to face any particular direction or even attempt to jump for the ball per the note following 6-3-8.
