As long as were in the neighborhood -

What if the throw-in lodges betwixed the rim and backboard?

Are you talking about the backboard the rim is attached to or the other backboard? Becasue, if it is the other backboard, that means we've got bigger problems!!!!

Here is a fundamental I would use. If it aint OOB then it must be in bounds.

The only times ball is OOB (see 7-1-2) touches player who is OOB, touches person, floor, or object on or outside boundary, the supports or back of backboard, the ceiling, overhead equipment, or supports, or passing over a rectangle backboard...

It's not one of these, it must be in and legal.

Not quite the case on a throwin, but the OP doesn't break any specific throwin rules, either.
