I might take you up on the lawyer need...
5th/6th Rec Championship this Sat. I'm L, have a held ball in front of me...TWEET...I point to the other end of the court...kids are still fighting over the ball and white player ends up on the floor. It was one of those where he was trying so hard to rip the ball away he flung himself on the floor....He's now acting as if he's working on winning an Oscar Award for best drama.... Claimed the other kid choked him! ![]() ![]() I looked at him and calmly said, "Sir, if you'd like to watch the rest of the game from outside in the parking lot, I can accomdate you". He left the floor without further incident but it let me know that my fellow league directors need to address parents entering the playing floor to check up on Lil' Johnny next season. Trust me when I say it will be in our legue rules and code of conduct that they must be beckoned by the coach or Board Member on duty in the gym. |

![]() As a parent, I understand he was concerned for his kid....I get that....But like I told the board...if cool heads didn't prevaill from this dad...we all have heard and seen bad things happen in these situations and next year it will be written in our league rules and code of conduct that the only way they will enter the court is by being beckoned by the coach or member from our board..... |

Try To Stop Me ...
All three of my children played sports; soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, track, cross country, and gymnastics, at many levels, recreation, travel, middle school, AAU, high school, and college.
If my 5th, or 6th, grade child, appeared to be seriously hurt, I wouldn't wait to be "beckoned" onto the court, I would go to my child right away, however, I would be tending to my child, not critiquing the official. From middle school up, I might be more patient, with first-aid certified coaches, and trainers present, but if it was a really serious injury, like a compound fracture, I don't think that I could stop myself. As a middle school basketball coach for over 25 years, if one of my players, or an opposing player, got hurt, I never waited to be "beckoned", I was on the floor tending to player immediately. Never received a technical for this, and if I ever had, well, then, so be it. It would have been worth the penalty. And if you disagree with me, I can bet that you're either not a parent, or not the parent of an athlete. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
