Posible mechanics change for 2008,09

I have a habit of only blowing whistle on out of bounds plays, calling color and pointing direction.

Heard a rumor that this may actually be an approved mechanic next year or least it's up for discussion. Anyone else hear this?

Who is purposing this change? And honestly if someone has to add this as a mechanic, the governing body has a little too much time on their hands.

Peace

so... no hand up???

Alot of refs do that. I think its an nba mechanic. Everytime I find myself doing that I feel like slapping the sh1t out of myself. LOL... Got to get that hand up till they do change the rule.

It is the NCAAW mechanic. NCAAW rules / mechanics often seem to be the baseis for new FED rules / mechanics.

I would not go that far. Many of the adoptions are NCAA things, not specific to the Women's side. As a matter of fact Women's rules and mechanics seem to be going further away from other types of basketball.

Peace

Hey, what's new? Change for change sake seems to be the motto de jour.

I agree. Do not get me wrong I think this would be a good change, but I just do not see the big deal. I would advocate more of an option than just getting rid of the stop clock mechanic. We did not need a kicking signal and we did it anyway.

Peace

As someone mentioned, I'm watching too much TV. regarding NCAAW, I believe I started emulating someone who is a D-1 women's official.

I am neither a college or NBA ref and should probably stay in my world.

That's my thought too. The kicking signal is overkill.

So in 2008, then, they'll have caught up to me.

I'll believe it when I see it.

In NCAA Mens that mechanic is used as well. We can do the high school one or just point. At the high school level I just point, but the instructional chair gets on my *** for that, so I'm trying to fix it. If you think about, the high school is basically NCAA mens mechanics, except NCAA mens, as the option of using the directional out of bounds signal by just pointing. hasthe signal for an intentional that is called for excessive contact, and the shorten timeout for subsitiution.

Actually there is not option to stop the clock in NCAA Men's Mechanics. The stop clock is required if you use pure mechanics.

Tommy, I know that you have the CCA manual, because you quoted it in the thread about the Trail chopping in time. If you look in it, it has the stop-clock signal and there's no longer an asterisk next to it to indicate that it is optional on out of bounds violations. About 3 years ago, the manual made a big deal about saying that the stop-clock signal is NOT optional. It should be given for all violations, including out of bounds.

I know that JRut already said the same thing, but I just wanted to reinforce it. Hope it's not overkill.
