A long time ago, I was evaluating two guys working a JV or Freshman boys game. We were chatting at halftime, and I asked one of the guys (first year) about what the coach was asking him on a very obvious foul call. He told me the coach said, "you called that on him because he was a football player!"

We were laughing so hard, I forgot to tell them something I wanted them to keep in mind for the second half.

Ah, independent tourneys..... Years ago, I got a phone call to come help in one. It had already started, and one official had not shown up. (imagine that) When I arrived, there was a women's game in progress. All 10 players had on white t shirts, don't think any had numbers. Very interesting.
Why didn't you call out the fouls by bra size? i.e.: "Holding on 36C." "Pushing on 34B." "Jiggling on 44DD."

BTW - I'd like to see the mechanic for that last one.

That would be discrimination on tits. I think that there's a law against that.

Or maybe it's one of the Constitutional Amendments.....

Or one of the Ten Commandments....

Or sumthin' like that anyway.....

After the captains went back to the benches, the home coach told me his players felt we were being racist by calling them "black", since most of the players on the team were black.

Looking back on it, I think I could have asked him for alternatives, but it was such a dumb complaint, we just blew it off and went with blue and black.
As an official myself I probably would have used the same color "black" but after what the coach said, do you think it would have hurt to take another look at this? The point I am trying to make is, by changing to a color that may have made the players and coaches more comfortable, it also could have set a good tone to start this game.

Absolutely, Love2. In my original post, I said "Looking back on it, I think I could have asked him for alternatives". I think I was a little insulted by the insinuation and dug in my heels, rather than simply saying, "Then what would you suggest, Coach?"

Well, ok, since you guys already brought up this subject...

I'm just finishing up a college women's game, home team is up and is shooting FT's. I'm trail; one of the home team players is having a conversation with her coach, and I hear the coach say loudly, "Don't tell me, tell him!". And, of course, he's pointing at me. So the player comes over and tells me, "Could you watch 23, she keeps pinching my nipples." I look over at the coach, and he just winks at me and smiles. So I tell her I'll watch for it.

I spent the remaining few moments of the game trying to figure out if I should watch closer, or feel guilty for watching closer.

The proper response would be to advise her to shout "Number 23, stop pinching my nipples!" That would likely take care of things.

I know, technically you don't need 5 players (on one team) to finish the game...but you get my point.
