Only by extension.

Anyway, Chuck's argument falls apart because he chooses to ignore the meaning of the word "might" - according to one web dictionary it is "used to indicate possibility or probability". For the philosophy majors out there: the probability of something happening ranges from 0 to 1. Zero probability means something is statistically impossible, it will not happen. Example - the probability of Chuck touching the top of his kitchen counter without standing tippy-toe is zero.

So my original statement stands: saying some *might* enjoy something implies some *might not* enjoy it.

We now return you to your regulary scheduled off-topic thread.

This is simply not true. "Some" is simply a subset of "all". The subset might be the same size as the set of "all". Addutionally, if I know that you WILL enjoy it, it would also be true to say that you might enjoy it. It has nothing to do with probability at all.

Not that it really matters, b/c the Yankees are in last place and they have no pitching at all besides Pettitte. And what's the deal with pitching Pettitte in relief between starts?

That's correct, and that's my point. What you refuse to accept is the possibility that less than "all" might enjoy it - IOW that there will be those who do not enjoy it. Oh well...

Get back to me after Labor Day & we'll pick this topic up again. There are some who might agree with me btw...which according to your way of thinking means that everyone agrees it's entirely too early to be looking at the standings or the pitching.

Which means even the Cubs have a chance, right?

But, given that "some" does not necessarily equal "all", "some" plus "some" equals "all", in a large number of cases.

Therefore, some might not agree, but some will.

(What was the question again?)

In short: yes, we agree 138%.

You must have been one of those guys that score 110 on their math tests.

Yep, I was.

It took me three tests to get there though...

All your friends are short?

What are the odds of that?

It's not by chance. People who are taller than me can be acquaintances. Friends must be shorter; it makes me feel superior.
