10 second rule- girls ???

Nate - remember, the women use a 30-sec. shot clock, while the men use 35, so I'm not sure how much it actually slows down play. If anything, it provides more offensive posessions for the women than the men over the course of the game. And, in all the games I've done and seen, I've rarely seen much stalling in the backcourt. I don't know if it's just ingrained in our basketball culture to bring it up the court fast, or if there's other reasons. Perhaps coaches feel if they're going to pass the ball back and forth, they would rather not do it so close to the other team's basket. Or, if they spend 15-20 seconds playing keepaway in the backcourt, they have less time to get into the front court and into an offensive set.

Dean Smith did not have a shot clock to work with in the days of the 4 corners offense. You still have to attempt a shot and hit the rim or lose the ball all together.

I saw the NCAA W national chapionship game where Harding of Duke held the ball in the backcourt until the shot clock reached 10. How is this helping the game?? My question is this: on average how many 10 sec. call do you make a year?? My guess is probably less than 1 per game. So why not keep the game moving???

What difference does it make if they stand in the backcourt or just across the division line? They're doing the same thing (holding the ball) until defense gets played.

They have 30 seconds to shoot. What does it matter where the ball is or what they're doing during that 30 seconds? Why does it matter that the player is standing on one side of the division line or the other? Well Duke was dribbling the ball in the BC, did Maryland have the option of going after her? Did they? Then waht does it matter?
