Adjusting officiating level to pay

I did not say you are the only person with this feeling. I am saying that there is not a lot you can do about it by complaining here. If you feel there is a problem, take it to the people that assign the games or run the tournament. If they trust your opinion, maybe things will change. If they do not trust your opinion, then things will stay the same. The reality is assignors are only going to do so much during the summer. Many times the same assignors I deal with during the summer are not the same people I deal with during the regular season. The assignors I work with during the summer just want to fill the games. They are not as concerned as who works the games. Maybe that is very similar to your area.

I had our assignor once tell me that he needed me to work six games in a row or we wouldn't get coverage for a particular tournament. I told him, "three is my max because my quality deteriorates after that both mentally and physically." He ended up getting it covered... it just took him a few more phone calls than he wanted to make. Off-season ball is almost a perfect supply-and-demand market. The tournaments will find plenty of officials if they raise their pay high enough.

David, officiating is like every other job is this world. There are those that are great and there are those that are lousy. There are those that are dedicated and there are those that don't give a $hit. There are those that will always do their best and those....well, hopefully you get the picture. In the end, there's very little you can do about it, except complain on an Internet discussion forum.

Here either. And pay isn't always the issue. Even the well-paying rec leagues get people who are just in it to get the check and go home. That's just life.
