Received a hamstring strain 3 nites ago. Very little swelling and almost most bruising or skin discoloration. What's the best way to get this type of injury healed so I can get back on the court ASAP? Tried jogging today and could only go slow. Missed Friday and Saturday games and scheduled to miss games on Monday and Tuesday. One of these upcoming games happens to be between two teams ranked in the state top 10. Timing is terrible.
Thanks for any help offered. |

Have you seen a doctor? That might be the best way to find out. There is a difference between a strain and a tear. You could have a tear and that would take a lot longer to heal.
Go see a doctor man. Peace

Don't push yourself - while a top ten game may seem like a horrible thing to turn back, it would be even worse if it was the first and last game that you worked at that level. (Even if you don't injure yourself further, you're not going to impress anyone at 50% of full speed.)
Go see a doctor - preferably a sports medicine subspecialist - or, at the very least, an athletic trainer before you even consider working this game.

This may not be what you want to hear but usually with injuries like that, the best medicine is; see you next year. It takes rest and you really should see a Dr. because you don't know how bad it is and you don't want it to pop out there on the court. Do it for the kids, forget the coaches and fans. 8-)

1) trauma, which didn't happen in your case 2) you've torn the muscle (or tendon)and the wound is bleeding. Been there, done that, and you are most likely done at any level that requires more speed than Chester on the old Gunsmoke series. Others have recommended sports medicine and I quite agree. Unlike bones that mend and the spot is stonger, muscle tears that mend on that spot are weaker and more likely to tear there again w/o specified preventive exercise. Been there and done that too. Good luck.

Been 5 days now. Have seen some slight bruising in back behind the knee. Did some stretching with no discomfort and a walking and some jogging, which was slow. If I tried to speed up a little, did feel some discomfort then. Will be talking to a therapist today. Will be interesting to see what they have to say.
Thanks again for all the advice and trying to take it slow. I did like Mick's advice but don't think I'll try it just yet. Will sit at least tonights and Friday's game. Next scheduled game is next Monday. |

a Dr or Physical Therapist will almost always protect his rear and tell you to take several weeks off plus PT. if he tells you to go get em, and that thing gets worse, he doesn't want to be responsible. of course over the years, i've also learned that it can be helpful to listen to someone who has several years of education specifically regarding my injury. good luck whatever you do.
