Correctable Unwarranted FT - Take Point Off Board/Book?

2-10-4 : "If the error is a free throw by the wrong player or at the wrong basket, or the awarding of an unmerited free throw, the free throw and the *activity during it, other than unsporting, flagrant, intentional or technical fouls, shall be canceled."

2-10-5 : "Points scored, consumed time and additional activity, which may occur prior to the recognition of an error, shall not be nullified".

What's the difference between "canceled" and "nullified"??

Situation: A1 in control of the ball in A's backcourt commits a player control foul. B was in the bonus and the officials mistakenly allow B to shoot the first free throw of the bonus. The ft is good. Before the ball is at the disposal of the thrower for the second shot, the officials realize that no free throws should have been awarded.

Is the point taken off the board/book for the first, made, unwarranted free throw, via 2-10-4? Or, since the free throw (ie, point??) was scored before the error was recognized, we keep the point on the board and B then gets the ball OOB?

2.10.1 E is similar in that an unwarranted successful 2nd throw is "canceled" and "no goal" is scored.

Unmerited Free throw ...

We're well within the statute of limitations for correctable errors here.

Cancel the successful unmerited free throw point.

Give the ball back to Team B nearest the spot of the foul.

If there had been a foul (like a rebounding foul) during the free throw activity for the unmerited free throw, the foul would be canceled unless it was unsporting, flagrant, intentional or technical (not relevant here).

Any time that ticked off the clock stays ticked off the clock (shall not be nullified)(not relevant here).

If any points had been scored between the error and the discovery, other than the unmerited free throw, those points will still count (shall not be nullified)(not relevant here).

Keep in mind that that a goal (points not nullified) will be immediately followed by a dead ball, which is an important point in the statute of limitations for correctable errors (not relevant here).

Also, keep in mind that a change of possession between the error and the discovery is also important in how to rectify a correctable error (not relevant here).

To avoid many correctable errors (not relevant here), keep your eye on the scoreboard looking for the sixth and ninth fouls (communicate such with your partner) and the noncalling official should identify the shooter.
