We don't know all of the facts. What we do appear to know is that Teddy Valentine talked to ESPN on Monday (who reached out to who is unclear).

I agree with Rich that if JD doesn't want to publicly comment (and I agree with his actions of not doing so), Teddy has every right to do so on his own. But there's a right way and a wrong way to talk to ESPN.

Working in the tournament is a privilege, not a right. Teddy seems to have forgotten that at the moment. He might have said to ESPN, "While I disagree with and am disappointed by my exclusion, I understand the context of JD's decision and I respect it." If he says that, he's probably right back in the Final Four next year. But he didn't say that. This is unfortunate both for Teddy and the game. But Teddy is not bigger than the game, and the game will go on, with or without him.

He's 59.

But those that say he's terrible, etc. are just delusional. 29 tournaments and 10 Final Fours. You don't get that by being terrible.

What was your source on this? I looked last night and found 7 as his number of Final Fours in an article.

He may have been an alternate for 3 Finals Four.

At the end of the day, this comes down to who you work for. NCAA officials work for the NCAA when it comes to the tournament. So if he did something that did not make them feel good, he can and will be punished. It is their tournament and can make whatever decisions they wish. TV worked tons of games on TV this year after that incident, so he was clearly the top guy on many lists.

I think he is a great official and this situation was the type that takes place when players get too big for their britches. I will just leave it at that fact.

Peace

And he's one of the very few officials who could handle that situation the way he did and, for the most part, not miss a beat when it comes to his schedule. For most of us, if we handled a situation like that, our season and possibly career would be over.

Not saying that's right or wrong, just reality.

I think part of the issue was because it was TV and who made an issue of this was the problem. I really do not think that most of us would have had much of a problem in the long run when it was not on video or a national broadcast. This to me smells like PR more than anything. Which is the business we are often in at the end of the day in the first place.

Peace
