Your table is going to get a lot more complicated.

Some, Oregon included, pay different rates depending on the Classification.

And to be a fair comparison, you have to include travel. Some states pay travel, some don't but pay a somewhat higher game fee. Some states pay one rate for a single game or the first game in a double header and a lessor amount for the second game.

South Carolina is still paying travel. All varsity games are 3-man.

One game (rare): $55
Two games: $78

$0.45 per mile with a minimum travel fee of $9. So if you work two varsity games the minimum you would gross is $87.

Some include a fee that the referee then pays back to the assigner; some pay the officials a fee and have the school send a separate fee to an assigner. Etc.

Thanks, I know that there are a plethora of anomalies but am mostly looking for fees for 2-man or 3-man Varsity contests at the highest classification. I have a separate column I am tracking for mileage but obviously gets confusing between how much per mile, vs flat fee, vs mileage after a certain amount of miles, vs a Per Diem. Totally understand your point.

Most states there is a set fee assigned by the state association for contests at each level. States like Iowa it is done per district and there are even a few states that the schools negotiate with each ref (contractor) individually. Obviously mileage/travel is a moving target, but I tried to capture the most information with not too much clutter (3-man lower level is rare and can probably be ignored).

In Virginia fees are negotiated by association commissioners. These contracts can either be with individual schools (usually private schools) or entire conferences.

Is there a range or average from what you have seen?

It's actually been as high as $75 for a Varsity game in my local area and came down to accommodate 3-man for Girls games. I'm on 2 boards and the range is about $60-65 per Varsity game. I'm thinking those rates would be much hire in Northern VA near and within the Beltway.

Ultimately, what matters is how much the official actually receives for doing the game, regardless of all of the methods of determining that amount. Seeing a $20 difference between states doesn't mean much if the lower state pays $20 in travel while the higher state doesn't pay travel. Compiling a list of the only one term in the equation is like predicting who will win a basketball game by calculating how tall the starters are.

Correct which is why I stated that I was also collecting travel/mileage.

In Pennsylvania, the fees are set by each league. In my league we get $75, all three-person. Our JV rate is $64, all two-person.

i missed the postseason last year with an injury, but two years ago I got $87 for a league playoff game, $99 for a league final, $78 for district playoff games, and $80 for a state playoff game. Again, all three-person.

Wisconsin has games that pay $55. They have games that pay $85.

Some areas pay travel. Some don't. A few conferences still in the stone ages work 2-person. One I know allows crews to decide to bring 2 or 3 -- if 3, no mileage and a flat fee. If 2, same fee, but a mileage allotment. I really don't know the details, cause I have worked my last 2-person HS game, by choice.

Playoffs this year are $65 for regionals, $75 for sectionals (all 3-person) with mileage paid to the official (or split equally among the 3) who lives farthest away at 45 cents a mile round trip.
