Bench Cheering

I worked a scrimmage over the weekend. The bench of one team was loud, standing up, high giving etc.. there is no rule against this right? I was working with a veteran official who told the coach that coming this next week that is not allowed and would be a tech

If all they are doing is cheering, I got nothing. They can cheer and even stand at times. Of course they cannot continually stand, but that is not illegal all the time.

Peace

Team members on bench must remain seated accept to spontaneously react to outstanding play. Must then sit immediately. If they stand and remain standing I would simply tell coach they are not allowed to stand unless it is a quick response to a great play. If they stay up and continue to do so I will have to address it/penalize. Something like that will usually take care of bench issues.

(They can stand to report in and during TOs obviously.)

The question is whether this standing was continuous or only in response to plays. Momentarily standing to cheer is fine, continuously standing and cheering is not.

I have seen teams standing for extensive period of time for years or at least trying to. I do not think this is just about that team. Heck there are some programs that try to stand until the first basket is made and only do it when it is allowed to do so.

Peace

Maybe, but it's nothing new really. Arizona had the Gumbies in 1988, a much bigger deal than Monmouth because the Wildcats were a Final Four team that year. I'm sure there have been a number of examples since (and probably before).

There is a local HS that does that....except when I work, as apparently other crews were reluctant to tell them it is not allowed.

Cole,
You're gonna want to be able to reference Rule 10-5-4d to refute that mistaken notion expressed by the veteran you mentioned. Would he be open to that if it were communicated to him?

Again, I'd want to know the answer to my previous question before stating that declaratively.

I think the rule book I used also allowed them to stand to check out the Hot Moms.
