Well...

In LL, you are "supposed" to throw a red flag...

I have not nor will I EVER throw a red flag.

In fact the closest thing I have is a red shirt in a glass case that says, "Do Not Break Open In An Emergency".

PS.: If the runner leaves early, it has to be blatant for me to send him back.

What is wrong with the red shirts? (Yeah, I know what is going to happen after I post this comment) I have 2, and have had nothing but compliments from fans and coaches when I wear them.

And just to really get some people going... I do, and have worn, the OC Red w/Black trim shirt (with black bags, because the red is on backorder, and have not shipped to me yet). I got it when I made the mistake of asking my wife what shirt I should buy, she saw it and wanted me to get. So in the intrest of keeping the misses happy I bought it. I will maybe even post photos of it on here in the next couple of days.

1. Haven't you ever told someone how good they look when in reality, you wouldn't he caught dead in that get up?
2. They are being polite because if they tell you the truth, they are afraid that you will toss them.
3. What the hell do fans know?

1. They're okay if you match your partner.
2. They are being honest. They like the shirts.
3. Next to nothing, you don't have to know that much to tell that red is a good colour.

1.They are not okay. And I would never match my partner because I would never waste my money on one.

2. So the fans like the shirts. That's nice.

3. Red is not good for umpiring. When I see an umpire in red I think he looks like a clown even if he actually is a good umpire.

He also looks just like the bullseye on an archery target. Gives the pitcher and batters something to aim at!

The bull's eye on an (at least most) archery target is yellow.

I have suspected in the past, and now I am convinced that you are using the wrong definition of rube in your signature.

Then why bother doing the games at all if you're not going to follow the rules? Isn't that what umpires are there for?

p.s. it doesn't have to be red, if that's what so offensive.

Aside from the unappealing idea of throwing a flag in baseball....

If you know who Frank Policano and Doc Lantiere are, then you know they will tell you this: if you throw a red flag, you're on your own. They do not want you to throw the flag in any game above local League play. That means District games, Sectionals, State and (especially) Regional games.

If you don't know those two names, then suffice it to say that the 'Association' does not want you to use the Red Flag.

I do not know who either of those two are, nor do I care who they are or what they want done. If you have to follow their instructions to get games, then I guess that's what you have to do and you're stuck.

As for myself, I do what my district UIC wants done, which is in line with what the state UIC wants. My state UIC also happens to be one of the top umpires in my region, teaches at the regional umpire camp, and observes the umpires at our Regional. I find it highly unlikely he would say, "It's okay; don't throw the flag if you don't want to." I don't like carrying one because I don't like extra stuff in my pockets, but I do it. And sometimes, like last week, I actually use it.

Then we agree. Frank is the Eastern Region UIC and Mike is the Assistant Eastern Region UIC. So I guess we do what they want if we want Regional games.
