F4 Tricking Baserunner

YouTube - 2nd Baseman Tricks Base Runner & Ump Screws It Up

What's your call in this situation?

To me, the BU did the proper thing. FED 3-3-1g(4) was my first thought, as F4's act was "not in accordance with the spirit of fair play."

Cool

yawetag,

Depends on the rules the game is being played under.

Under FED rules, the F4 telling the runner that the ball was foul is considered "verbal obstruction" and the runner would properly be awarded 3B.

Under OBR-based rule, there is no such notion and it's technically legal - the baserunner should be looking to the umpire or his base coach to see whether or not the ball was foul. Pretty bush, but legal.

And in an adult league playing OBR (and maybe a NCAA game depending on the coaches), the next runner going first to second would get his nose busted with an "errant" throw.

Or next time that runner came to bat he would get one in the ribs.

Following that train of thought, the next time that second baseman came to bat he would also get the rib shot.

I'm watching this video, and I vaguely hear "Dude, It's foul". Actually after watching a few more times, I think that was yelled on an adjacent diamond with another game going, as you can hear another hit with a metal bat at 0:12 and 0:15. But even with that, I don't understand why the runner just gets up and heads back to first, when I believe he was able to see the ball go past him behind 2nd base.

Why would the defense plunk a batter that just gave them an easy out? Makes no sense.

My call is that the HP ump is gonna have a sore neck if he keeps following those foul balls to the screen...

Also, it looks like two guys that are perfect for that level...
