College World Series
The first base umpire looked really good bangin the ball foul that was fair, and he just kept banging it foul. What had to be going through his head, 4 hour game, had a brain fart and after he realized he was pointing towards the foul side, he probably said some choice words to himself. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when he looks at the 11 runs that team scored it makes he feel a little better.

Yeah that was pretty bad. You could tell by his body language that he knew he blew that call.
I have seen some pretty questionable calls throughout the regional all the way to CWS. The hidden ball trick in the UCI- LSU game had to take the cake. The second base umpire had his back to the play and did not see the play at all, but called the out due to UCI reactions. Makes you wonder how they got to call the super regionals. |

"....UmpTTS43 let me know when y'all work DI games of that caliber. I'm sure yous guys never kick a call......"
True, we all kick calls, but these guys are doing the games and the rest of us are not, because they are supposed to be the best. We are not there, in theory, because its more likely that "one of us" would kick a call like that Hidden Ball Trick. Or blow the fair/foul call. Sorry, but those two calls cant be missed at these levels of games. These guys are determined to be the best at what we do, that it would be unlikely for them to take their eyes off the ball. That it would be very unlikely that they would point the wrong way on a fair/foul call. Yes, during these games these guys will be "expected" to miss a banger at first, call a pitch that would normally be called a ball is called a strike, or vice-versa.,etc. These are the calls "we all miss". But those two calls are calls they are not suppsed to get wrong. Thats why they are there. Yes we all miss calls, but you can understand our thoughts on how THESE guys make THOSE mistakes on those calls. By having a cramp on the basics we are taught in Umpire 101. Again, its not a missed banger at first, or a pitch called differently. Its these kinds of situations you might see on your local youth diamond, as opposed to College Baseballs biggest stage. |

As another poster stated earlier two of the umpires involved, I know personally and I would work any game, anytime, in any city with them and/or for them.
So, until we get there (if we ever get there), use the plays as learning tools, topics for pregame, or teaching topics. Not the other stuff. |

I saw the play on a rebroadcast of the game and my initial thought was, "do you think he thought he was working 3rd base"? He seemed disoriented to me and to emphatically make such a mistake.

[MrUmpire From this thread and others, this is what I have learned:
Little League WS umpires suck. College WS umpires suck. Only those umpires who will never see either level of ball make no mistakes Mr Umpire..from this post, and this post alone, this is what I have learned: you dont grasp at all what the other posts are about. Read them again. |
