Balk Question

We had a balk called on opposing team due their 3rd basemen holding one of our runners on with one of his feet in foul territory.

USSSA rules- I can not locate any such rule in U-trip that says a balk shall be called in this case. Is this a Fed rule? I notice in MLB it is common for 1st and 3rd basemen to have one foot in foul territory while holding a runner.

Coach:

You were just experiencing "Umpire Myth #52."

In NFHS (FED) his position was legal by rule so don't blame them THIS time.

In OBR tradition has allowed a fielder to take a position with one foot in foul territory.

IF one team complains then the umpire shall require both teams to perform to the letter of the law (both feet fair).

The penalty for this is not a balk it would be an ejection if a player continued the practice.

At no time is it a "fielder's balk."

Regards,

When have you seen a third baseman hold a runner on in MLB?
