For that matter you can probably ask around and find a decent pair of catcher's guards that will do very well for you. That way you can save your money or invest in the mask and chest protector which are really the important pieces.

I thought maybe getting a pair of the adjustable ones from either +Pos, Champion, or Pro-Nine. All of them have that soft, coushy backing that i want. Whats your thoughts on a pair like that? (also i did try a pair of catchers ones, but i didnt not like them. Somehow they are bigger at the knees, and look odd under my plate pants

No offense, but no one in the entire world is looking at the PU unless he's wearing a shirt faded three shades toward gray, or pants stopping two inches above your ankles. A BU in plate pants is a different story. But behind the dish the most important thing is that you feel protected.
