what do you guys think of the wilson west vest shin guards A3409? they appear to be top of the line if you go by price alone. but they a bit big a bulky - are they overkill? i don't want to limit my mobility.
any other shin guard recommendations?

I bought a pair of Gerry Davis shinguards a couple weeks ago, based on recommendations from many. I have tried them on and they appear very comfortable and lightweight, but appear to be very good protection. There are only 2 straps, instead of the 4 I have had on my previous shinguards. I can't wait to start the season with them. I still have a pair of Honigs K20 and a pair of Rawlings shinguards. I have never been hurt by a ball off the shinguard so if I had a choice between spending extra money on shinguards or a chest protector I would spend on the chest protector.

Shin guards are a dime a dozen....

Pick yours based on which fit your height best.

I had the wilson, sold them,

I have the honigs, I want to sell them,

I do want the Gerry Davis, my brother has those and they feel great! I think they're even a few $ cheaper. They are lighter as mentioned by one poster. I think the wilson are overkill for fed use.

Thumbs up HSSG

Whatever brand you end up with, make sure they are NEW and lightweight shin guards. I have a pair very similar to the Gerry Davis model. The two wide elastic velcro straps do not rust or rub into your legs like the four straps on traditional baseball leg guards. This makes it much more comfortable to wear at the plate and to run around the field.

I reccomend the Itech HOCKEY shin guards. They are mostly plastic and light as a feather too. I removed all the lining/padding from the inside because it generates HEAT. At my age, I wear knee pads for support and to absorb any more shock on my knees. I also left some padding near the ankles to absorb the shock there. So far, I haven't felt a thing in between either.

NOTE: I will never wear a HOCKEY MASK to a baseball game. Actually, I'll cross my fingers that the traditional mask will still be available for BASEBALL. An umpires job is tough enough without the taunts over their choice of headgear.
