After that there are only 3 choices.
1. Runner realizes his mistake and returns to base.
2. He's tagged out
3. Out for abandonment

I wouldn't say you're missing anything. The Evans ruling that I posted was to illustrate that the play in question deserves a signal.

sorry guys...what are FED rules?? I work high school and amateur in Minnesota which use NFSA rules and MLB rules respectively, I want to make sure I'm reading the right stuff. Thanks fellas, new to the board.

FED rules are NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) rules. The majority of high schools nationwide play under FED rules.
