That's still the USSSA rule today.

Yep. The post I replied to said it was the slow pitch rule. Didn't think I needed to say it again. But for those keeping score at home...

SLOW PITCH!

I was just curious how others would have ruled on this that is why I did not mention the unique league rule regarding a thrown ball out of play. I am just trying to have some discussion about a play that happened, this board is not very active. Wasnt expecting to be questioned about why I posted what I did or how bad the rule is in a league where I umpire games where I do not make up the rules.

Well, to start, you are from Jersey

When you ask a rules question, you should provide the rule set. If a local rule, many on this site may not respond, or give you a response base upon other rule sets.

You set the play, got the accurate response and then hit the board with a rule that does not exists in many, if not most, places.

You are a new poster and I'm sure folks thought you were looking for help.

I wasn't trying to "hit" anyone with a rule, just saying I awarded one base because of the rules specific to that league. I wasn't saying anyone was wrong, just saying why I didn't award two bases.

I apologize if you took offense with my initial response. I just felt your question was rhetorical, that's all.

And nobody is criticizing you for not awarding two bases. As I mentioned before, your ruling was correct in accordance with the rules you enforce in your league.

If I were you, I would go back to that league and ask why they have such an odd rule. As you've heard here, it conflicts with just about every softball and baseball organization in existence.
