Whats the call?

I had a game situation last week that I need help on.

Player A1 drives to the basket for an attempted shot, While in the air Player A1 changes his mind and decide to pass the ball off to A2. A2 did not expected the pass and the ball was about to go out of bound. A1 decide to go after his pass and retrieve the ball from going out of bound.

Another word A1 pass the ball but no one touches it and A1 went after to retrieve the ball or tap it to his teammate is that legal or not?

I cannot find the ruling anywhere in the rule book.
Can someone please tell me what section of the rule is this ruling is located in?

Double dribble

The pass would be considered a new dribble. Double dribble.

Wouldn't this be a travel for doing something other than shooting or passing or requesting timeout after raising the pivot foot off of the floor?

How can you travel without the ball?

Based on the following play:
A1 catches the ball and immediately jumps off of both feet, presumably for a shot. A1 instead throws what is apparently a pass towards A2 prior to landing. A2 doesn't see it and starts cutting away from the ball. A1 runs and touches the ball before any other player. What's the call?

As I see the play, it is a travel, because the player lifted his pivot foot before starting what turned out to be a dribble. I also see it as the perpetuation of a myth, as all the knowledgeable guys in the crowd turn to each other knowingly and say, "You can't pass it to yourself." Then the same thing happens on the other end a few minutes later, but the pass was thrown by a player who does not leave the floor, and then recovers his own pass. Half the crowd immediately yells, "Hey, call that on both ends!"

That's how I see it, too. Now; where's the throw in? Nearest the spot where he lifted his pivot foot, or nearest where he touched the ball again?

The violation is for the way the dribble started, so I suppose it goes back to the point where it started.

Now you make it sound like an illegal dribble.
