double first base

Fed rules................

Runner on first, she is standing on the orange part of the safety base while getting sign from 3rd base coach, pitcher has ball in circle, Base umpire call runner out for being off "base" while pitcher has ball in circle.

your call???

I can’t find any casebook plays anywhere near this play, I have a no call here, but I few people seems to think the orange base disappears after initial play others say it becomes one big base looking for help with rule and or interpretation

The umpire who called the runner out was incorrect.

Rule 8-10-1 specifies the only time there is any penalty for either the offense or the defense regarding who touches which base:

Quote:
ART. 1 . . .The defense must use the white portion and the batter-runner the colored portion when a play is being made on the batter-runner.
8-10-3 further states:

Quote:
ART. 3 . . .The offense or defense may touch the white or colored base:

a. On a fair ball hit to the outfield with no play being attempted or when the runner is returning to first base.

b. On a fly ball tag-up play.

c. (F.P.) On an attempted pick-off play.

d. On a base on balls.
In your situation, there is no batter-runner and there is no play being made. Note what I've underlined above. Does it make any sense that a runner can return to the orange base, tag up from the orange base, and use the orange base as a base for a pickoff play, but it doesn't count as remaining in contact with the base while the pitcher has the ball in the circle? No call was correct in your situation.

That was true the first few years of the safety base. It is no longer true.
