ASA Slow Pitch - Stealing
Help - I don't have my rules book at work and need correct information.
I know in ASA Fast Pitch and modified pitch that a base runner may leave their base when the ball reaches the front of home plate. I thought this was the same in ASA Slow pitch. I had a vetern official last night inform me that in slow pitch, the ball must touch something before the base runner can leave. The ball must touch the ground past the front of the plate (not the plate or it will be a dead ball), the bat or the glove of the catcher before the base runner can leave. Is this true? Please give rule number. |

The ball doesn't need to touch something in order for the runners to be allowed to steal. It simply has to reach the front edge of home plate. However, if the ball touches the ground BEFORE reaching home plate, touches the plate itself, or touches the batter, runners may not steal.
Check 8-4-F and 8-7-R.

Dave I haven't decided if I should call it from the dugout or the outfield. Apparently, both have really great views! Screw green, it ain't easy being blue! I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again. |

In FP and MP, the runner may leave when the ball is released. |
