NCAA DeMarini Phenix

(NCAA Community College) Was presented with a DeMarini Phenix last night could not find (nor could the coach show me) any CFPx (model number) or CFx (-xx) Model on the bat.
It had ASA 2004.
I didn't allow it (despite the fact that the coach assurred me it had been allowed in the previous 38 games his team had played )

Anyone familiar with this bat?

From what I understand, the Phenix was not placed on the NCAA list because it was out of production. Cannot vouch for accuracy of that reason.

Yes, I am.

DeMarini has NOT approved the Phenix bats with NCAA. They no longer make them, so no sales potential to make it valuable to approve.

You did right.

Hey, has anyone else EVER been told you were the only one to not allow something?

I'm the only umpire to ever:

Ask for a line-up card

Check the bats

Call (insert violation here) an illegal pitch

Insist on the ball coming out of my bag instead of the dugout

Tell the team to wear the uniform properly

yada, yada, yada.

What do you mean by this one? I've never had a team try to tell me that I wasn't supposed to keep the game balls. Except during a rainstorm they might offer if they have a towel, and I'd tend to say go ahead since it can get fairly wet up here. Something wrong there?

Sometimes the coaches will send in return fouls balls from the dugout. Last week at a HS tournament, this was done in a rain storm. Honestly I didn't think anything of it. After the inning, I went and picked up the ball trying to keep it dry. To my amazement, it was an NSA "Shark" ball - not approved for HS ball. The coach said it was a ball from their practice balls and it was an honest mistake. The only mistake was on my side - I should have never assumed the coaches would get it right on their own. Leson learned.

I actually worry more about the AA teams.

Well - this is why I have ALL game balls come "through my bag"
Ran out of game balls - three foul balls out of fences. Defensive coach throws a ball to his pitcher. I ask to inspect ball & it was a "mush" ball - not a game ball. I threw it back to the coach.

He said it was his "mistake." The b**ch of it was - this coach was/is a personal friend of mine and an instructor for my DD.

I guess that is why game balls go thru me. With rain I might make an exception.

My 2.5 cents
