Speaking of shin guards...

....and not to hijack Tom's thread about the Davis product. I was looking around online the other day, thinking about getting some new shin guards, when I discovered that I could find no listings regarding "The Ump" products. I did a google search on the parent company "BodyGuard," and could find no trace of them. Anybody know when and why this company went out of business? I have been wearing "The Ump" shin guards for years and have been really happy with them.

Scott,

About 3 months ago I looked high and low trying to find some UMP Shins. Went the same route throug the net you described and could find nothing out. At that time, Officialgear still listed them but when I called them I was told they were discontinued because they were poor sellers. Since they had been in the Honigs 2006 catalog and were listed online for some of 2007, I called Honigs and asked. The Honigs store in Bryan said they had no Ump products in stock and didn't know why Honigs no longer carried them. I then called Honigs' national office and they said they had a few items such as chest protectors but no shin or leg guard products and that they would no longer offer them. I asked if Bodyguard had gone out of business and they replied that that was what they understood but didn't know why. They also had no other phone numbers or contact information, even old numbers. I gave up at that point and quit looking. Somewhere along in all the phone calls I was told Bodyguard had maybe been acquired and the sports products were not much of a sales or profit contributor and had been discontinued. Not sure this is much more than speculation.
