How many outs?
Question: R1 on 1B, no outs. How many outs do you get when a batted ball first hits the dugout fence and then rolls down the field in foul territory and strikes the base coach's left foot?
Answer: Two. R1 and B3. PU's explanation: The ball could have hit a rock and bounced fair, and F5 could have made a double play. Therefore the base coach prevented a potential double play, and both outs stand. And no, a protest was not called by the offense. Go figure... Based on a true story. Edited to change an I to an A.

Quote:
Three outs. 1) Ump not calling foul when " ball first hits the dugout fence" 2) Ump for the explanation 3) OC for not questioning or protesting

What if the dugout fence is one of those doggie "invisible fence" deals? Huh? Huh? Didn't think of THAT, didja?
Besides it was another one of those $hitty $eattle days. You'd be calling outs, too. (no, I was not the umpire...)
