I've never seen anyone go an inch from second, but I've seen some some pretty long retreats trying to set up a double steal.

The "1inch" was indeed an exaggeration, just to make an extreme. But I have had more than one play in which she went at least halfway, no response from F1, then retreated to try a response that way. It worked, and she got into a rundown. R1 scored at least once that I remember.
